Pet Battles Dailies Tactics with Mirthe

Alright, some people have asked me to write down some tactics for the pet battle daily quests, so here it goes! I’ll start with some must have pets you want to upgrade and level as soon as possible. This post uses the letters for the breed IDs. You can find a reference for those at warcraftpets.com. In case you haven’t, you should definitely download and install Battle Pet BreedID or a similar add-on.

Small Frog (breed #11 S/B)

This is the fastest level 1 frog in the game. I use a Leopard Tree Frog (breed #5 S/S) myself, which is even faster, but a bit harder to get, since it’s a level 23-25 pet. As an aquatic pet your frog takes 33% less damage from undead abilities and it’s Tongue Lash does 50% more damage against undead pets. Add Frog Kiss (50% extra damage against elemental pets) to the equation and your frog will solo Lydia Accoste in Deadwind Pass, the first tamer that will reward you with a Sack of Pet Supplies

Enchanted Broom (breed #5 S/S)

A fast magic pet with flying, humanoid, magic and mechanical abilities, which you’ve probably obtained during Wrath of the Lich King (if not just buy it from the AH). It’s an uncommon quality pet to begin with, but very much worth using your first Flawless Magic Battle-Stone on. I use it to solo Stone Cold Trixxy in Winterspring, the second tamer that will reward you with a Sack of Pet Supplies (use Broom against her dragonkin pet, Wind-Up against her beast and Sweep against her flying pet) and it’s one of my favorite pets for PvP pet battles as well…

Jade Owl (breed #8 P/S or breed #10 P/B)

Another magic pet you want to upgrade to rare quality as soon as possible. As a magic pet your owl takes 33% less damage from aquatic abilities, while it’s flying attacks do 50% more damage against aquatic pets. I use it against Wastewalker Shu in Draed Wastes, the Flowing Pandaren Spirit and some of the Beasts of Fable

Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling (breed #5 S/S)

As a mechanical pet your dragonling takes 33% less damage from magic abilities and it’s Breath does 50% more damage against magic pets. Also an uncommon quality pet to begin with, but worth upgrading to rare quality as soon as possible. You can use your dragonling against Bloodknight Antari in Shadowmoon Valley and Jeremy Feasel on Darkmoon Island…

Flayer Youngling (breed #5 S/S)

While heavily nerfed in patch 5.2, the flayer is still one of the best critter killers out there. As a humanoid pet it takes 33% less damage from critter abilities, while it’s beast attacks do 50% more damage against critters. It’s tameable in a wide variety of breeds, so getting that fast rare quality S/S flayer can be a bit of a pain. It’s probably fastest to just tame a poor quality breed #5 flayer and upgrade it as soon as you get a Flawless Humanoid Battle-Stone. The flayer is still my number one choice against Obalis in Uldum, Seeker Zusshi in Townlong Steppes, Courageous Yon in Kun-Lai Summit, Aki the Chosen in Vale of Eternal Blossoms, the Flowing Pandaren Spirit, and some of the Beasts of Fable

Chrominius (breed #6 H/H)

As a dragonkin pet Chrominius takes 33% less damage from flying abilities and it’s Surge of Power deals 50% more damage against flying pets (combined with Howl for added drama of course). A Nexus Whelpling (breed #4 P/P) is also pretty good against flying pets, but it’s harder to obtain (level 20-22) and Mana Surge only has an 80% chance to hit. Lil’ Tarecgosa (breed #7 H/P) also has magic abilities (Surge of Power, Arcane Blast), but no Howl unfortunately. I use Chrominius against Obalis in Uldum, Mo’ruk in Krasarang Wilds, Courageous Yon in Kun-Lai Summit and Hyuna of the Shrines in Jade Forest…

Shimmershell Snail (breed #7 H/P)

A level 3-6 critter, so easy enough to tame. It takes 33% less damage from elemental abilities and it’s Dive deals 50% more damage against elemental pets. Your snail will keep itself alive between dives with Shell Shield and Absorb. I use the snail against Major Payne in Icecrown (with Acidic Goo instead of Shell Shield to speed things up a bit) and Seeker Zusshi in Townlong Steppes…

Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot (breed #5 S/S)

Another uncommon quality pet worth upgrading and leveling. It’s abilities deal 50% more damage against beasts. If your opponent uses his beast as his first pet pick Minefield, if not pick Toxic Smoke. Your bot will most likely be faster than it’s opponent, so Batter will do a lot of damage. I use the blue bot against Major Payne in Icecrown, Obalis in Uldum, Mo’ruk in Krasarang Wilds, Wastewalker Shu in Draed Wastes, Hyuna of the Shrines in Jade Forest, Farmer Nishi in Valley of the Four Winds, Jeremy Feasel on Darkmoon Island and some of the Beasts of Fable
